Tomatoes

Tomato production in Poland covers the biggest area of all vegetables grown under covers. The main impact on crops has then the agrotechnical factors and the quality of the varieties. Tomato production in Poland is located in big urban areas, including the Karczew region near Warsaw, Kalisz, Katowice, Lublin, Zamość, and Rzeszów. Annual production reaches about 580 000 tons. Standard round varieties like Admiro and beef tomatoes of Bogota and Growdena varieties constitute the majority of the production in Poland. Taste connoisseurs search for tomatoes on the vine, raspberry tomatoes and cherry tomatoes.

Class I – tomatoes must be of good quality, firm, characteristic of the variety. Not allowed are irregular extensive differences in colouring and green shoulders, mold, pest contamination, growth cracks or scarring. Slight defects in shape, colouring, and skin as well as slight bruises are allowed in this class.
Class II – fruits, which do not qualify for the inclusion in the higher classes, but satisfy the specified minimum requirements.

Tomatoes vary not only in terms of shape, but also hardness degree and taste. These differences are the result of the advancement of ripening process and are characteristic of the given variety. Round tomato (Admiro):

140–170 g, round, very hard, very attractive colour and distinctive shine. Stalk nicely shaped, durable. Stem directed to the side, it does not damage fruits during sorting and transportation. Admiro is a great variety for difficult external conditions. The plant sets fruits well even by low light intensity, as well as during heat. Fruits keep exceptional quality and durability over the whole growing season.

Raspberry Tomato (Tomimaru Mucho):

160–180 g, raspberry colour, exceptional delicious taste. Round, first bunches delicately ribbed. Hardness level similar to the varieties with red fruits. Stalk nicely shaped, stays fresh for a long time. Growth: high plants, easy to harvest. Narrow leaf blades. Taste connoisseurs are particularly interested in this variety.

On the Vine Tomato (Komet, Endeavour):

130–170 g, nice red, shiny fruits of uniform colour. They are hard, round and have high post-harvest durability. They look beautifully in bunches. Note: early variety, which crops regularly during the whole season, for harvest of whole bunches and individual fruits without stem. During the regulation of bunches, 5 fruits should be left in a bunch.

Cherry Tomato (Conchita):

20–25 g, hard, attractive colour, shiny. Very tasty, sweet, but with delicate, refreshing sour taste. Fruits can be picked in whole bunches or individually. The average number in one bunch is 14–18 fruits. To harvest Conchita variety in whole bunches, the number of fruits in one bunch should not exceed 10–12 fruits. Bunches blush quickly and evenly.
